A perfect smile doesn’t always happen all by itself. Sometimes it needs a nudge in the right direction. Sometimes, of course, kids need braces. Even if your child’s teeth look great, we strongly recommend an early screening for all children. Aesthetics is not the only thing we are good at, function is #1 and we want to make sure that your child is set up to keep their teeth for their entire lifetime. Timing is very important in orthodontics, early screening can help simplify future treatment. Most of these screening appointments will simply wind up with some free advice. However, if your child does end up needing treatment, then catching issues early will help save your son or daughter from a complicated future.

Beyond achieving a beautiful, healthy smile, members have the opportunity to accumulate reward points and even meet Cole – our beloved CEP (Chief Executive Puppy).
Cole joined South Surrey Smiles in 2022 and is an integral part of the South Surrey Smiles team. You might see Cole in the office visiting and assisting Dr. Williams during growth guidance exams for our younger patients. He will shake a paw for treats and loves to run after the ball in between patients. When not in the office, you can find Cole living his best life at the beach or with his friends at the dog park.
When should my child see an orthodontist?
Early treatment can help reduce the complexity of future orthodontic treatment for your child. The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child's first visit to an orthodontist happens by age 7. This is an important age when children are starting to transition from primary to permanent dentition. An early assessment will highlight any underlying issues. A child who has no underlying issues will have their growth and development monitored. Alternatively, a proactive intervention can be necessary to set up a favourable growth environment for your child and help reduce the complexity of treatment in the future.
